Robots In Japanese Cafe Controlled By Folks With Disabilities

Robots In Japanese Cafe Controlled By Folks With Disabilities

Alec Chan ·

When I came across this video, it really made me think.

It was about how Japan is using lots of robots in the service industry to serve food in restaurants and cafes (even making the coffee too!).

In a way, one view many in the world have about this, is that robots will one day take over employment from humans...

But at the 6:32 mark of the video, there's another view of this.  What if we can use the technology to enable people with disabilities, people who live in rural areas far away from the city, or even home caregivers that are stuck at home a chance to work?

And that's what this particular cafe in Tokyo did, where they retrofitted robots that are controlled virtually by people with disabilities and home caregivers across Japan.

You can watch this amazing video here to see how this all works:

What do you think of this?  Do you think this can work?

Could this be the future of employment?

Let me know what you think!

Cheers,

Alec
